Mussolini
As a result of Mussolini and the fascist movements power grab, the dictator took the wind out of sails of the left-wing parties, and Italy became a totalitarian state. After he became Il Duce (Mussolini gave himself this moniker, meaning, The Leader), Mussolini put into place public works programs that improved employment dramatically. He got the railroads running on time. His military was not prepared, however, for WWII. As a result, his necessary unity with Hitler brought about his eventual demise. Hitler was, for all intents and purposes an evil man. Had he been able to succeed with his plan, he would have ruled much of the world. But in general, dictatorships are often fragile. Free worlds look down on them and often move in to destroy them. They only serve a purpose when the free world needs them for economic gain, or their democracies are in danger. When these reasons threaten the free world, countries like the U.S. use sanctions, embargos, bomb, or bomb and invade when it decides it is necessary.

Hussein
For the countries surrounding Iraq, Saddam's rise to power meant the threat of invasion and hostilities. Since Saddam came to power Iraq has invaded and been to war with several of these countries. On domestic soil, Saddam Hussein and his clan used blunt violence to maintain his power over the people. Anyone who worked for his government was punished by immediate execution if they thought of moving in another direction politically.

Hitler
As Hitler became a leader in Germany, he exercised his autocratic power and began racist politics based on his belief, anti-Semitism. Not only Jews, but also he despised other kinds of people. He ordered to kill Jews, handicapped Germans, homosexuals whom he considered as inferiors. As a result, about 18 million Jews in the world were killed. This is well known as the Holocaust. His interest toward war and power over other countries affected many countries during WWII. He declared war on Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, France, and finally the Soviet Union, and invaded these countries. |
