BENITO MUSSOLINI

RISE OF FACISM IN POST WWI, ITALY, WHEN THE COUNTRY IS ECONOMICALLY AND MORALLY FRACTURED

1919- After rejecting socialism, Mussolini founded combat groups called Faci di Combattimento.  Then the group formed into a pro- war group called Fasci d' Azione Revoluzionaria.

1921- Mussolini transformed his group into the National Fascist Party and was elected to Parliament.  Fascists led a march on Rome forcing King Emmanuel III to appoint Mussolini as Prime Minister.

1922- Mussolini took control of the government and centralized all power in himself as leader of the Fascist Party.  With this, he attempted to create an Italian empire, ultimately in alliance with Hitler's Germany.

1923- Mussolini's troops occupied Korfu.

1924- An assassination attempt on Mussolini failed.

1925- Mussolini declares himself dictator of Italy.

 


Saddam Hussein

1937- Born April 28th in Tikrit, Iraq.

1955- Joined Baath Party in Baghdad.

1959- Organized assasination attempt on prime minister of Iraq. The attempt was unsucessful, he fled to Egypt.

1963- Returned to Iraq. Named assistant secretary general of the Baath party.

1964- Imprisoned for two years because of involvement with the Baath party. He escaped and went into hiding.

1969- Named deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council (RCC).

1970's- Negotiated oil deals for Iraq. Built roads, schools, hospitals, power lines. Improving countries conditions.

1979- Became president of Iraq.

 

Adolf Hitler

1889- April 20, Adolf Hitler was born

1913- Hitler moves to Munich, Germany

1914- Hitler enlists for WWI in Germany

1919- Hitler encounters the German Worker's Party (later renamed Nazis)

1921- July 29, Hitler was elected as Fuhrer (absolute leader) of the party

1923- Beer Hall Putsch fails. Hitler recieves 9 months of 5-year sentence prison

1932- Hitler becomes a German citizen

1933- January 30, President Hindenburg appoints Hitler as Chancellor

1933- August 2, Hindenburg dies. Hitler becomes head of state and commander-in-Chief of the armed forces
